The missionary expressed his pleasure at the peoples’ simple ability to “just believe”.
The insult, although not intended, did not fail to escape my attention.

but did he ask what they believed? And then respect their choice????
Hi Fiona,
The missionary certainly did respect their choice as it was the one he wanted them to make! lol
This is a true story.
you wouldn’t what they believed. I’ve been watching this thing on Viasat about the zulu kingdom and the early europeans there. The people then were very clever. I think they just accommodate foreigners too much – a thing somehow intrinsic – something still persisting today lol
Well, if the people had the ‘simple ability’ to believe, how else would you describe that ability? But if he said it with, um, colour and tone, and it was condescending, then I begin to see the insult that somebody else does.
Hi Nana Yaw,
He was incredibly complimentary and inspired! He highlighted the fact that those in his country want to question everything. The emphasis should not be on ‘simply ability’ but “just believe”.
I work with a company which requires that I like Livingstone, show electronic gadgetry to village folk from time to time. Occasionally, some of my white coworkers come along. They are even more wide-eyed. The difference is immense. It amazes me the naivete and the complete absence of skepticism, considering what has happened to the black man in the past after taking up Obroni offers.
